General Sutori Questions

What is Sutori?

In a nutshell, Sutori is a place where customers can rate companies, share experiences, build consensus and reach companies to affect positive change.

Here's how it works . . .

On Sutori, you can rate companies by posting stories about your experiences with them.

Each story is accompanied by a "goodwill rating", which contributes to the goodwill meter—an aggregated view of how the Sutori community feels about each company.

When other users read your story, they have the option of leaving a comment or voting to agree or disagree with you.

To reflect the power of consensus, stories with many "agree" votes have a stronger impact on the goodwill meter. Similarly, stories with many "disagree" votes have less of an impact.

In addition to a centralized goodwill meter where companies can track how customers feel about them and why, Sutori also includes a mechanism whereby companies can post official responses to any story.

You can learn more Sutori and the people behind it at our About Us page.

How is Sutori different from other review sites?

First and foremost, Sutori is about more than products. It's about experiences.

Finding the best products is a vital part of life as customer. But it's only one part. There are so many other aspects of the overall experience that make us happy or unhappy customers.

In other words, it's often more about HOW someone sells you something than WHAT they actually sell you.

We think our focus on the whole customer experience sets us apart from other sites that focus solely on products.

And secondly, we at Sutori want to help our users help each other out by sharing information, but we also want to take it further. Ideally, we envision the site as a mechanism for building consensus around real issues and getting the attention of the companies involved.

We think focus on reaching companies and working towards positive change makes us pretty darn unique.

What's the "beta" about?

In software development speak, beta means it's working but still being tested, tweaked and (hopefully) improved. That's us!

Are there some rules I should know about?

For a nice overview of the laws of the land, read our Community Guidelines.

Posting Stories

What is the goodwill rating all about?

When you post a story, you can use the goodwill slider to sum up the level of goodwill your story contains toward the company or brand you're writing about.

As more users write about the same company, your goodwill rating will be added to theirs to determine the overall level of goodwill for that company.

The end result is a goodwill meter that can show a company, at a glance, how much love they are earning—or not earning.

What are tags?

Tags are like keywords or labels that you can attach to your stories. Tags make stories easier to find and connect them other stories that have something in common. You can assign as many tags as you wish to each story.

Use spaces to separate your tags. If you want to use a tag with more than one word, you can either use_underscores or smooshthewords together.

Some examples:

Writing a story about your Canon digital camera? Try these tags:

digital camera photography digital_camera

Writing a story about a favorite Thai restaurant in New York? Try these tags:

ny nyc newyork new_york thai thai_food dining lowereastside

Agreeing with and Commenting on Stories

How does agreeing and disagreeing work?

The easiest way to participate at Sutori is to agree or disagree with a story. It only takes one click. Think of the story as a petition and your click as a signature. Clicking "I agree" means the story struck a nerve, rung true, made you want to shout out "amen!".

Disagreeing means the opposite.

Once your signed up and logged in you can agree or disagree with any story, but only once. No ballot box stuffing here.

Can I delete me comments?

Comments cannot be deleted. If you want to retract or amend something you've said in a comment, try adding another comment.

Account / Profile

How do I reset my password?

You can reset your password on your profile page.

Can I change my username?

No. If you want a new username, you will have to create a new account.

My email address is private, right?

Of course! We will never, never, ever sell or share your email address with other parties.

The Sutori Site

How do you determine which stories are on the home page?

The stories on the Sutori home page are automatically chosen because they have attracted lots of views, comments and votes. Time is also factored into the equation so that the same stories don't stay on the home page forever.

How do I report something on the site that concerns me?

If you see something on Sutori that you seems offensive or objectionable to you, please flag it as inappropriate. Our community is self-monitored by members like you, so please alert us to anything you see that's illegal, inappropriate or spammy.

How can I suggest things I'd like to see on Sutori?

Email us at hello@sutori.com. We're always here and we're always listening. Your email will be read by a real person and we'll get back to you if we have further questions.
